GROWTH INHIBITORY EFFECTS OF LACTOBACILLUS CASEI YIT 9418 ON MYCOBACTERIUM FORTUITUM

Abstract
|
|
|
This study aimed at finding causal growth inhibitory effects of Lactobacillus casei YIT9018 on
Mycobacterium fortuitum in LM broth medium. The results obtained were summarized as follows;
1) Direct growth inhibitory effects of L. casei on 1T fortuitum was closely related to lowered pH
due to lactic acid produced by lactobacilli.
2) Growth inhibitory effect on mycobacterium by lactic acid was more prominent than by hydrochloric acid even in identical pHs of medium. LM broth media neutralized with HCl of which pH had been adjusted to 3.80 with lactic acid also showed significant growth inhibition on M. fortuitum.
3) Nondializable metabolites derived from culture filtrate of L. casei or L. casei plus M. foruitunv did not show growth inhibitory effect on M. fortuitum even in concentration of 500 c g/ml.
